About Claire Leyden, Soprano Soloist
Commended for her “magnetic stage presence” and “crystalline soprano,” Claire Leyden is an emerging singer and actress with an extensive background in operatic, oratorio, and musical theater repertoire. She is the 2016 recipient of the prestigious Hubbard Hutchinson Memorial Fellowship in Music, and was awarded an Emerging Talent Award in the 2018 Lotte Lenya Competition. Claire feels equally at home in a variety of genres, and the diversity of her recent performances speaks to her love of, and versatility in, the “crossover” repertoire. Most recently, Claire appeared Off-Broadway in the new musical comedy HEIST! at The Players Theatre, where she originated the role of opera diva Cynthia Stitskaya. Her operatic credits include Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Despina (Così fan tutte), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Flora (La Traviata), and various light opera roles with the Victor Herbert Renaissance Project LIVE!, New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, and the College Light Opera Company. Claire is a frequent concert soloist will make her Carnegie Hall debut in March 2019. Claire is a recent alumna of Williams College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Music and English. She studies voice with Andrea DelGiudice in New York City.
About Tom Mulder, Tenor Soloist
Emerging as a versatile young artist, tenor Tom Mulder has had success in interpreting repertoire ranging from bel canto to modern opera to musical theater to chorus work with the Metropolitan Opera. Recent solo engagements include Merry Widow (Camille) with New Rochelle Opera, The Island of Tulipatan (Hermosa) with Light Opera of NY and Albany Records, Sir John in Love (Fenton) with Bronx Opera, the orchestral premier of Roscoe (O.B. Conway) with the Albany Symphony, My Fair Lady (Freddy) with Skylight Theater and Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio) with NY Lyric Opera Main-stage. Tom has been a young artist at Caramoor, Seagle Music Colony and Opera Company of Middlebury and performed such roles as Falstaff (Fenton), Les Miserables (Marius), La Traviata (Alfredo), Così Fan Tutte (Ferrando), and L’Italiana in Algieri (Lindoro). He also received the Darren K. Woods Scholarship Award from Seagle Music Colony. Tom received his MM and BM in voice performance from Manhattan School of Music and Vanderbilt University respectively. He was fortunate to be a part of an NEA grant to bring western opera to China with a group of alumni from Vanderbilt University in 2014 and returned August of 2017 to the I-Sing China program to perform Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi and learn operas in lyric Mandarin.
