A New Museum Annex to replace the Green Cottage

Above:  Plans for the Museum Annex

Last week, the Island Heights Planning Board approved the construction of the new John F. Peto Studio Museum Annex to replace the existing green cottage. The Museum Annex will be fully accessible and ADA compliant; provide additional exhibit space, art classes for children, and informative lectures. Please check back with us for the latest developments on this amazing project!

We’d like to thank the Planning Board for their enthusiastic approval of our new Annex.  We are also grateful to our architect George Thompson, our engineer Rob Harrington, our attorney Steve Kotzas, our professional planner Jason Marciano, as well as all the neighbors who came out and lent their support.

Thank you to our
DOCENTS AND GREETERS

We’d like to extend a big thank you to our docents and greeters. Without you, and your dedication, we would not be able to offer art exhibitions to the public.

Unlike many other Museums, the Peto does not permit visitors to walk unaccompanied through our galleries. Instead, visitors are welcomed at the door by one of our greeters, who show the videotape about the Museum, make visitors feel welcome, provide them with information about membership and upcoming events, and obtain their contact information.

The docent-led tour then begins. Each of our docents has received special training from our Curator about the works of art on display in the current exhibition. This special training maximizes visitors’ enjoyment of the exhibit.

We want to specifically thank Harry Bower, Colleen Kehler, Mary Judge, Barbara Hanna, Fran Jorin, Sally Van Duyne, Karen Pasco, Linda Baxter, Dennis Broschart, Frank Parisi, Wendy Bright-Fallon, Ellen Columbus, Denise Summer, Kiki Arevalo, Sue Swain, David Shipman, Sally Gauntt, Elise Fialkowski and last, but certainly not least, our volunteer coordinator Joyce Kaizar.

Your dedication, enthusiasm and commitment are appreciated by all. Anyone interested in volunteering as a greeter or docent should please contact us at info@petomuseum.org.
