History through Peto’s Paintings
This month our Museum Curator, Harry Bower and Board member Barbara Hanna provided a lecture and tour to the High School History Club from the Ocean County Historical Society. The students attend Toms River High School South and enjoyed the lecture entitled, History through Peto’s Paintings.
Expression through Art
The John F. Peto Studio Museum collaborated with The Presbyterian Church of Toms River to kick-start an art program for teens and adults who are part of the Special Needs Ministry. The joy of painting was experienced by all.
Board member Barbara Hanna and Museum Administrator Amanda Alsheimer visited the Upper Shores Library in Lavallette to view the artwork that the Hugh J. Boyd elementary school students created through the Building Bridges Grant. The John F. Peto inspired artwork has been on display for the month of April in honor of student art month.
Thank you to our members for making the opening of our spring exhibit, Preserving Creative Spaces, a HUGE SUCCESS!!!
We asked what they enjoy most about volunteering at the John F. Peto Studio Museum:
Frances Jorin: “My volunteer experience as a docent at the Peto Museum has provided me with the opportunity to feel that I am in a different time and place for the brief time that I am in the house as a volunteer. John F. Peto and his family become alive to me and I enjoy sharing that experience and information with the guests who visit. A highlight of my time as a volunteer was to bring my 19-year-old granddaughter down to the Museum and Studio for a private tour on a Saturday afternoon. She took pictures, enjoyed every moment of it and then her words to me when she left were, “Grandma I learned so much today,” just as I have by volunteering at Peto.
