The museum frequently offers new and exciting programs such as new gallery exhibitions every Spring and Fall, our “Fridays at Peto” series, featuring guest lecturers with periodic topics of interest, University art student exhibitions, and “A Painting a Day” art course by Abby Ryan. The museum is also featured on the Island Heights Spring Garden Tour, and the Island Heights Holiday House Tour every year! See below for our scheduled events.

The Women of Peto

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, the Peto Museum of Island Heights will be highlighting the contributions of the Women of Peto, to include his daughter Helen (who was a watercolorist); Peto’s female students (including Emily Perkins); and art and artifacts of other Peto family members. The history of Peto’s granddaughter Joy Smiley’s life growing up in the Studio will also be explored, as will the works of some of the founding members of the Peto Museum – Jean Wetta and Alice Askoff.

9/27/2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM ET

Calling all Creatives! In this class, we will focus on the act of painting itself and your experience while painting rather than the final art product. Wild and Free Painting is a nourishing Process Painting Art Studio and is coming to The Peto Museum to paint with us and support self-care, personal growth and exploration. Creative expression can serve as a tool to heal, connect, uncover, reclaim and discover. Join us and give yourself the opportunity to rediscover your Creative self-alongside others without pressure to perform, produce or succeed. All supplies will be provided.  $40 per person. Led by Elissa Arbeitman, owner of Wild and Free Painting. Absolutely no prior art experience is necessary to enjoy the benefits of this process! All materials and tools will be provided so you can just show up.
